Hail one evening, wind the next morning
Euless had a rough Memorial Day in 2024. On the evening of May 27, the Storm Prediction Center logged hail of 2.75 inches about 2 miles south-southwest of Euless and 2 inches about 2 miles southwest, with smaller hail north and south of the city.
Early on May 28, a separate round of storms produced a 77 mph gust measured at DFW Airport, on Euless’s northern edge.
Hail and high wind damage a roof differently. Hail bruises shingles, knocks off granules and dents soft metals. Wind breaks the seal strips that hold shingles down, starting at edges, rakes and ridges, and can lift or tear shingles outright. A roof that went through both in twelve hours can have both kinds of damage, and they are not always easy to tell apart from the ground. Our roof storm damage page covers what we check for each.
Why the date of loss matters on a claim
An insurance claim is tied to a date of loss. When two storms hit back to back, the adjuster has to decide which damage came from which event, and a vague report makes that harder. Clear, dated photos of each type of damage make it easier.
On an Euless roof after storms like these, we:
- Photograph hail hits on shingles and on soft metals such as vents, flashing and gutters, which show impact clearly.
- Hand-test seal strips along the edges, rakes and ridges, and photograph any shingles that have lost their bond.
- Check the attic for new staining or daylight.
- Give you a dated photo report you can share with your insurer.
Our insurance claim process page explains each step in Texas, and meeting the adjuster covers the roof inspection itself.
Repair, replace or wait
Not every storm justifies a new roof. A few lifted shingles on a sound roof is a roof repair. Widespread hail bruising or seal failure across several slopes usually points to a roof replacement, often through a claim. Sometimes the honest answer is that there is nothing to fix yet, and we say so.
If you see damage after a storm, a few simple steps help whatever comes next:
- Photograph the roof, yard and any ceiling stains from the ground, and note the date and time.
- Stay off the roof. Wet or hail-damaged shingles are slick and can break underfoot.
- Keep receipts for anything you spend to stop water getting in, such as a tarp.
- Check your policy for the deadline to report a loss before you decide to wait.
