Fort Worth’s hail record
Fort Worth has a long hail record. The National Weather Service says the May 5, 1995 Mayfest storm dropped hail up to softball size on a festival of more than 10,000 people and caused an estimated 2 billion dollars in damage across Tarrant and Dallas counties. The NWS still calls it one of the costliest hailstorms in history.
It keeps happening. Preliminary Storm Prediction Center reports from the overnight storms of April 25 to 26, 2026 include 2.75-inch hail three miles north-northwest of Fort Worth, 2.25-inch hail near Westover Hills, 2-inch hail north of Benbrook and dozens of smaller reports across western Tarrant County. If your roof was under that track, it is worth an inspection. The NWS Mayfest summary is worth reading too.
Signs of hail damage on a Fort Worth home
Most hail damage cannot be seen from the yard, but the house around the roof usually shows it. Dented gutters, downspouts, AC condenser fins and window screens suggest hail big enough to hurt shingles came through. Granules piling up at the downspouts are another. On the roof itself, the damage shows up as dark bruises and cracked shingles.
Do not climb up to check. Storm-pitted shingles are slick, and steep pitches on older Fort Worth houses make that worse. Photograph what you can see from the ground, note the date of the storm and call for an inspection.
Our inspection and the documentation you get
We inspect every slope, the attic and the soft metals, and we photograph everything with a scale reference and a wide shot showing where it is. You keep a copy of the full set. It is your claim and your file, and the same photos go to your adjuster.
- Ground check of gutters, screens, fences and the AC unit, and the storm date for your address.
- Slope-by-slope inspection, with hits marked in test squares.
- Attic check for daylight, stains and wet decking.
- A plain answer: claim, out-of-pocket repair or no damage.
Replacing after hail: permits, historic homes and Class 4
If hail means a new roof, Fort Worth’s rules shape the schedule. The city needs no permit for a shingle-only replacement on a house or duplex, but it does once any decking is replaced, which hail-damaged older roofs often need. Homes in local historic districts such as Fairmount also need a Certificate of Appropriateness before work starts.
A replacement is also the moment to consider Class 4 impact-resistant shingles. We price them next to standard shingles so you can compare. See Class 4 shingles, roof replacement in Fort Worth and what drives the price in our roof replacement cost guide. Smaller damage may only need a roof repair in Fort Worth.
Deductibles and storm crews
After a big Fort Worth hailstorm, out-of-town crews go door to door. Some offer to cover your deductible. Business and Commerce Code §27.02 makes that illegal for a contractor, and Insurance Code Chapter 707 requires you to pay it, as the Texas Department of Insurance explains.
We are based next door in Arlington at 4275 Little Rd #202, we have worked in DFW since 2017, and our labor carries a 5-year warranty.
